73rd Amendment Act, 1992 (Panchayati Raj)

The act was passed in 1992 that gives constitutional status to Panchayati Raj institution. The act added to new part IX and 11th schedule.Do you know? - There were 395 Articles and 8 Schedules in the constitution when it finally passed. But now there are 444 articles and 12 schedules.This act is entitled as "The Panchayats" and consists of provisions from Article 243 to 243 (O). It consists of 29 functional items of the Panchayats. The Panchayati Raj system is only for states having more than 20 lakhs of population. The tenure of every Panchayat should be 5 years and election should be held 6 months before expiry of tenure.Direct election held and seats for SC, ST and womans are preserved. Panchayat can collect appropriate taxes duties tolls and fees. The election is arranged by State Election Commission. The State Election commissioner is appointed by Governer. He can be removed in the same manner as judge of High court.

About Padma Awards of India

Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. How many time zones are there in the world?

Answer: Actually, there are 24 different time zones with a difference of 15 degree longitude in the world. The Earth completes one full rotation in 24 hours at a speed of 15 degrees per hour. The hypothesis behind time zones is that the world is theoretically divided into 24 equal longitudinal zones and the time is accordingly adjusted in each zone by an hour.

Sir Sanford Fleming in the late 1800s gave idea of establishing time zones, but it was only in 1929 when it was established worldwide. Its implementation had minimal effect on the traditional way of telling the time in each zone and made it easier for people to understand the time differences between the zones.

Greenwich Meridian is the main reference for different time zones which is placed in Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England. It is popularly known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). But now GMT is replaced with a new term called 'Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)'.

The United Nation (UN) is a world organisation came into existence after World War II in 24th of October, 1945. Leaders around the world including American President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Churchill, decided to create a world organisation that ensure peace.

When UNO started, it have only 51 nations in the organisation but its number of members are now 193 including newly created South Sudan. The headquarter of UNO is in New York City.
